Enrollment Procedure

“A careful and thorough admission process helps us enroll students who can be successful in our program and who will make a positive contribution to our school.”

Admission decisions are made when the entire application process is complete. The Admission Committee reviews the completed file, giving consideration to all applicants who meet the published deadlines. Enrollment contracts are offered to applicants who are accepted and where space is available. In addition to these listed procedures, please see grade-specific information.

Application Cut-Off

  • Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students must be five years old on or before October 16 of the school year for which application is being made.
  • Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before July 1 of the school year for which application is being made.
  • First grade students must be six years old on or before July 1 of the school year for which application is being made.
We may recommend this cutoff date for students applying to other grades regardless of their current class placement.

Application

  • Grades TK–4: completed application with a nonrefundable fee of $85.
  • Grades 5–8: completed application with a nonrefundable fee of $65.
  • Grades 9–12: completed application and applicant questionnaire with a nonrefundable fee of $65.
When submitting application, please include a copy of the applicant’s birth certificate.

References

  • Grades TK–8: one reference must be completed by current or most recent teacher, and the second reference must be completed by a teacher or person (other than relatives) who knows the applicant well and has observed him or her in a structured educational setting.
  • Grades 9–12: one reference must be completed by current or most recent language arts teacher, and the second reference must be completed by the current or most recent mathematics teacher.
Persons completing the reference must mail it directly to Trinity to ensure confidentiality.

Transcript

Transcript release form signed and delivered to applicant’s current or most recent school. A copy of the student’s records, including grades and standardized test scores (if any), should be mailed by that school directly to Trinity School.

Assessment

  • Grades TK–2: Applicants must participate in a Gesell Developmental Observation (to evaluate developmental readiness) and a Classroom Assessment (to evaluate academic aptitude, behavioral matters, and work habits). Gesell and Classroom Assessments are scheduled in early January by the Admission Office.
  • Grades 3–4: Applicants must participate in a Classroom Assessment. The school may require additional testing.
  • Grades 5–12: Applicants must take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). Trinity will serve as an ISEE test site February 27, 2010. Applicants must register with the ISEE Operations Office before February 6, 2010.

School Visit

  • Grades TK–5: Families are encouraged to learn more about Trinity by visiting our campus (refer to admission schedule for Open House dates).
  • Grades 6–8: Applicants and parents are required to interview with the Director of Admission, Directors of Lower and Middle School, or a member of the faculty. Interviews are scheduled by the Admission Office.
  • Grades 9–12: Applicants are required to spend one morning visiting our classes, followed by an interview with the Director of Admission, Director of Upper School, or a member of the faculty. Morning visits are scheduled by the Admission Office.

Decisions

Admission decisions are made when the entire application process is complete (i.e., all required documents have been received in the Admission Office and the appropriate assessments have been completed). Once an applicant’s file is complete, the file is reviewed by the Admission committee, overseen by the Director of Admission. Applicants are notified of admission decisions by mail.
