Enrollment Procedure: Grades TK-11

If an applicant is admitted, and space is available, an Enrollment Contract is issued. Enrollment contracts must be signed and returned with a nonrefundable $500 enrollment fee by the following dates to ensure admission:

Grades
Enrollment Contract Due
TK—1
March 23, 2008
2—11
April 6, 2008

If Trinity’s deadline is prior to the notification date of another local independent school where an application is pending, Trinity will extend its deadline. Parents should contact the Director of Admission to request an extension.

Health Form

A Health Form must be completed for each Trinity student. This form, including an up-to-date immunization record, which is required by law, must be returned to the school office before a child is permitted to attend classes. Health forms will be mailed to the family for completion once a student is enrolled.

Course Work, Grades 5-8

Students who enter Trinity School in grades five through eight are required to complete additional coursework prior to the beginning of the academic year of admission. Each of these prepares new students to enter Trinity’s program with their peers.

History

Students in Grades 5-8 are asked to read portions of A Child’s History of the World. This reading will give students an overview of history that has been taught at Trinity up to this point. A copy of this text can be purchased from Calvert School. Their website is www.calvertschool.org, and their phone number is (888) 487-4652. There are also copies available in the school office that can be checked out over the summer.

The following is a list of required chapters:

Grade 5     Chapters 4–8 (33 pages)
Grade 6     Chapters 6–7, 10–11, 16, 23, 27, 30, 33, 35 (60 pages)
Grade 7     Chapters 6–7, 10–11, 16, 33, 35, 39, 45, 54, 62, 66–67 (81 pages)
Grade 8     Chapters 6–7, 10–11, 16, 33, 35, 39, 45, 54, 62, 66–67, 76, 77, 79 (104 pages)

Latin

Students in Grades 7–8 must participate in summer Latin, a course offered by Trinity School. The class meets for approximately ten sessions. The cost of the program is $275 per student, to be paid by the family.

Keyboarding

Students entering eighth grade must pass a typing assessment that is administered in early fall. We require students to type twenty words per minute, with ninety percent accuracy. Students can assess their typing skills at www.typingtest.com; we recommend taking a three-minute test with the text of your choice using the WPM (words per minute) unit for testing.

We strongly urge rising 8th graders to work on typing over the summer in order to pass the typing assessment. There are several ways to do this:

  • Use the Internet for typing or keyboarding activities (see http://www.typingpal.com/ or http://www.senselang.com/).
  • Purchase Typing Tutor or another similar computer program.
  • Take a typing course through a local school or institution (e.g., Durham Academy).
