Development
Having the Advancement Office embedded within Trinity's growing upper school for two years has been a rich experience. Surely part of my enthusiasm for our temporary location in South Building is seeing the Capital Campaign in action. The $8.4M Campaign is focused on South Building and the Student Activity Center, but also includes $400,000 to fund the high school. What a pleasure to be working in the midst of those dollars at work: enjoying the growth of the list of colleges that visit to talk to Upper School students, listening to our first varsity athletes talk about yesterday's close game, hearing conversational Spanish floating in the halls, and overhearing challenging physics problems being solved.
I frequently describe what I do by using the old development adage ‘raising friends and funds'. The Advancement Office at Trinity is deliberately at work expanding the Trinity community. While we look for like-minded people within the Durham and Chapel Hill communities, our exciting challenge is finding friends who are Christian but don't know Trinity, who are interested in excellent thoughtful education but are new to the Triangle, and who live their lives with their arms open to their fellow man but don't know a school such as Trinity exists. Our outreach includes:
- Trinity's alumni, the oldest of whom graduated from college in Spring of 2008
- Foundations, both those funded by corporations and families,
- Grandparents
- Friends both local and long distance who keep up with Trinity through The Column, our quarterly publication, and who visit campus for special occasions.
Our fundraising goals, explained in detail on this website, include raising:
- Capital dollars to build and increase our buildings and grounds
- Annual Fund to benefit each student and Trinity's operating budget
- Legacy/planned gifts from bequests or other estate planning financial tools
- Endowment monies for scholarships and financial aid
- Special project funds for short term projects such as Coxhead Fields or the Weight Room
If you have questions or ideas after you read the Advancement section of the Trinity website, I'd love to hear from you!
