Bequests

One of the simplest ways to benefit Trinity School is to include the school in your will. A bequest—a gift made through a will or other estate documents—may be designated to a specific project or may be left undesignated to be used for Trinity’s greatest needs. There are three basic choices when thinking about this kind of planned gift and the wording of the bequest. You could choose to leave

• A percentage of your estate
• Specific assets in your estate
• Specific dollar amounts from your estate

As with all planned gifts, Trinity recommends working with a legal advisor, but a codicil to a will may be executed by using the following as sample wording:

To give an unrestricted gift or a gift that can be used where need is greatest
I give, devise, and bequeath to Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, a nonprofit 501c(3) Corporation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, the sum of $________ for its general purposes.

To give for a specific purpose or a gift that is to be used for a specific purpose
I give to Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, a nonprofit 501c(3) Corporation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, the sum of $________ to be used for ___________ purpose; or___________% of my estate, or __________ asset (e.g., real or personal property and address, or shares).
