One of the simplest ways to benefit Trinity School is to include the school in your will. A bequest—a gift made through a will or other estate documents—may be designated to a specific project or may be left undesignated for Trinity’s greatest need. There are three basic choices when thinking about this kind of planned gift and the wording of the bequest. You could choose to leave
- A percentage of your estate
- Specific assets in your estate
- Specific dollar amounts
As with all planned gifts, Trinity recommends working with a legal advisor, but a codicil to a will may be executed by using these as sample wording:
To give an unrestricted gift or a gift that can be used where need is greatest
I give, devise, and bequeath to Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, a nonprofit 501c(3) Corporation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, the sum of $________ for its general purposes.
To give for a specific purpose or a gift that is to be used for a specific purpose
I give to Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, a nonprofit 501c(3) Corporation, headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, the sum of $________ to be used for ___________ purpose; or___________% of my estate, or __________ asset (e.g., real or personal property and address, or shares).
Affiliation with the Christian Foundation of the Triangle
Another way to benefit Trinity School is through involvement with the Christian Foundation of the Triangle. One pair of grandparents shared how their giving to Trinity changed since they began working with this foundation: “The Christian Foundation has greatly facilitated our giving of appreciated assets in a systematic way, which has translated into more generosity on our part. The heart and professionalism of the Christian Foundation staff are extraordinary.”
Trinity School has recently joined hands with the Christian Foundation of the Triangle to kick off a lively planned-giving legacy fund. Why is this important? To many of us, Trinity is a one-of-a-kind school: a nurturing support for our families, and a school that not only teaches from a classical perspective, but also frames every issue from within a Christian worldview. That means the students talk about Jesus. These simple facts are reasons for a variety of folks to look for ways to support Trinity.
Searching for the right tool for giving can be complicated. Some options allow you to make a gift to Trinity and ensure enough income for you and your spouse for your lifetime. Trinity’s affiliation with the Christian Foundation of the Triangle connects you with the professional, legal, and financial advisors that serve the National Christian Foundation in Atlanta.
