Welcome from Our Head of School
Welcome to Trinity
At Trinity School we are convinced that a vibrant Christian faith draws forth a rich and deep education. The Christian education we offer here involves the education of the whole person, created in God's image: We honor the life of the mind through the pursuit of deep understandings. We practice good habits and give students a moral framework for their lives. And we seek to awaken the imagination of students, so that their lives are full of wonder and awe at the works of God and the glories of human culture. A Christian school is well-poised to sustain an education in truth, goodness, and beauty.
Our purpose is captured by Psalm 115: “Not to us, O Lord, but to your name be the glory.” Trinity is a place where we teach our children and remind ourselves constantly that we are not the most important ones, that the purpose of education and of life is to give ourselves wholly to the One who is worthy. This is the big mission of Trinity School, the great enterprise in which we are engaged. We hope that our website gives you a picture of this unique school. But you really have to see Trinity School to know it. Trinity is, at heart, a community of learners. We know and love one another, challenge and question one another; we celebrate one another’s gifts and bear one another’s burdens.
We’d love for you to experience Trinity for yourself. So come visit us. Attend one of our many Tour and Information Sessions. Catch one of our athletic events, Robotics tournament, arts festivals. Chat with some of our teachers or administrators. Call one of our parents. Ask around the community and see what sort of school Trinity is. And be sure to read the materials and links we have on this website. Thank you for your interest in Trinity School. I hope to see you on campus soon.
Dr. Peter T. “Chip” Denton, Jr.
Head of School

Dr. Denton taught middle school English and coached football and track at Memphis University School. He has also taught Greek at Trinity Divinity School and Duke Divinity School. Dr. Denton served as Associate Pastor at the Church of the Good Shepherd before joining with others in 1995 to establish Trinity School. After a national search, Dr. Denton became Trinity’s founding Headmaster in 1996.
With a B.A. in English from Emory University, a Masters in Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University, Dr. Denton is the embodiment of what all Trinity students aspire to: a life-long learner. “I hail from Knoxville, TN, and the mountains still call to me somewhere at the heart's core. Some of my favorites are Augustine (after whom I named our dog), Dylan (even if he didn't show up in Stockholm), C.S. Lewis (a self-described dinosaur). I love to ride my road bike around Durham and Orange counties, and I have a chair on my sunporch that is my happy place. I learn best by reading and writing. I’ve been married to Desirée since 1982 and we have three children, all of whom went to Trinity through 8th grade, one of whom graduated in our first class to make it to Grade 12. I am enjoying my new role as Pops to our grandchildren.”
Dr. Denton and his wife Desirée completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage this past year during Dr. Denton’s sabbatical.
Trinity School is accreditated by Christian Schools International and Southern Association of Independent Schools and a member of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools.
Dr. Denton’s Pedagogblog is the place where Dr. Denton occasionally blogs about things that catch his attention.
