Apply for Flexible Tuition
In order to allocate resources wisely and fairly, Trinity has engaged the help of the TADS service. TADS does not decide whether flexible tuition will be awarded or how much a family’s tuition should be; rather, it provides a need-based analysis that assists Trinity in these decisions. The TADS report includes a recommendation of the amount that a family should reasonably contribute toward tuition. The Flexible Tuition Committee keeps these recommendations in mind as it carefully assesses Trinity’s resources and determines the level of award for each family.
Admission decisions are completely separate from flexible tuition decisions. A family’s financial need does not affect a student’s admission decision.
The school is committed to protecting the privacy of its families. The flexible tuition application process is completely confidential, and all financial information received by the school is held in the strictest confidence. No faculty are involved on the Flexible Tuition Committee, and they do not know which students in their class receive flexible tuition awards.
Before you begin your flexible tuition application on the TADS website, you’ll want to have the following documents ready. They will need to be mailed, faxed, or uploaded to TADS as part of your flexible tuition application.
- Your most recent Federal tax return, including all supporting tax schedules
- Your most recent W-2 forms for all individuals listed on your tax return
- If a parent or guardian is self-employed, a copy of the most recent business tax returns in addition to your personal tax returns.
The TADS portal for returning Trinity families will open Friday, October 18, 2019 and will close on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. The TADS portal will remain open through January 17, 2020 for new applicants.

Parents and guardians must complete a new application for flexible tuition each year. A family should expect that their flexible tuition award will be renewed at a similar level, provided that they continue to demonstrate similar need. The school expects that families who begin paying full tuition will continue to do so. The Flexible Tuition Committee is happy to consider applications from returning families whose financial situation has changed.
We expect both parents and any adults who are financially responsible for a student to contribute toward the cost of their student’s education to the extent they are able. Therefore, we require information from both parents and any step-parents. Each household must complete and submit a flexible tuition application. The TADS financial aid system is secure, and information from each parent is held in the strictest confidence. Families who are not able to submit all required documentation should contact us to determine if they can be considered for flexible tuition.
Step 2: After logging in, select “North Carolina, Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill”.
Step 3: Mail, fax, or upload your supporting documents by the deadlines above to receive priority consideration for flexible tuition. Please DO NOT send supporting documents via email!

Step 4: In addition to the documents listed within the application, you will need to submit the Supplemental Parent Question form, which will be provided by TADS upon completion of the online application.
